  • 18 Jun 1812—18 Feb 1815: War of 1812
    The war was fought between the United States of America and Great Britain in North America. The United States declared war after a series of trade restrictions, the impressment of American citizens into the Royal Navy, and British support of American Indians in the Northwest Territories. The war was ended in 1815 by the Treaty of Ghent.
1846 
  • 25 Apr 1846—2 Feb 1848: Mexican-American War
    The war was fought over the northern territories of Mexico and Texas. The United States conquered California, New Mexico, parts of northern Mexico and Mexico City which forced Mexico to sell the territories for 15 million dollars in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico also accepted the loss of Texas with the Rio Grande as its northern border.
1861 
  • 12 Apr 1861—26 May 1865: American Civil War
    The war was fought between eleven Southern states that formed the Confederate States of America after their secession from the United States and the United States of America, and began when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The Confederacy collapsed when General Lee surrendered to General Grant securing the Union victory. This is the deadliest war in American history with the deaths of 620,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilian casualties.
