  • 12 Apr 1861—26 May 1865: American Civil War
    The war was fought between eleven Southern states that formed the Confederate States of America after their secession from the United States and the United States of America, and began when Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The Confederacy collapsed when General Lee surrendered to General Grant securing the Union victory. This is the deadliest war in American history with the deaths of 620,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilian casualties.
1914 
  • 28 Jul 1914—11 Nov 1918: World War I
    World War I was one of the deadliest conflicts in history, resulting in an estimated 9 million military dead and 23 million wounded, plus up to 8 million civilian deaths from causes including genocide. The movement of large numbers of troops and civilians was a major factor in spreading the Spanish flu pandemic.
